The following is a retelling of the interview process I underwent with Facebook at 1/April/2010 for a Software Engineer position. I didn't get the job. It was my first interview process I have ever gone through and, despite reading all the other interview recaps others have written about companies like Amazon, Microsoft, or Google, I wasn't quite prepared. In any case, I hope the following is useful to others who may be preparing for the whole job game. Note: I've been careful to leave anything sensitive out of this entry for NDA purposes.

Power of windows command shell

I managed to use just pure windows command shell scripting to process around 500M text data ....
pure means not external exe/com files needed,,, just windows built-in commands (e.g. for, call, if ... )
amazing,,, windows scripting (*.bat, *.cmd) can just do almost anything... it is as powerful as linux shell script...

ok ,, here is the task....
there is a csv file,, let's say A.csv, which contains something like this...

I got to play around with this machine these days... Spectrum Master MS2721B, MS2723B, MS2724B....



When I finished the measurements,,, i had to copy around 100M data from the SM to USB stick.
anyway, it took longer than i expect (maybe it does not support USB2.0 transfer)...

Why not use FTP??? I tried,,, and i couldn't login... i couldn't find access details on the manual or internet ..
What the hell is the account name and password to login to vxWorkds 5 ftp?

A startup script to enable autorun.inf virus protection
Some virus create autorun.inf file to enable automatic file execution when you browse the folder,, which is very annoying... you can create a folder with the same name and in this case the virus would have trouble to write to that file. "Autorun.inf" even can not be overwritten because it is a folder...
Put the script at the startup to make sure every drive has a hidden folder "autorun.inf"

转一个小故事。

一只小猪、一只绵羊和一头乳牛，被关在同一个畜栏里。有一次，牧人捉住小猪，他大声号叫，猛烈地抗拒。绵羊和乳牛讨厌它的号叫，便说：“他常常捉我们，我们并不大呼小叫。”小猪听了回答道：“捉你们和捉我完全是两回事，他捉你们，只是要你们的毛和乳汁，但是捉住我，却是要我的命呢！”

立场不同、所处环境不同的人，很难了解对方的感受；因此对别人的失意、挫折、伤痛，不宜幸灾乐祸，而应要有关怀、了解的心情。要有宽容的心！

9 - Poland, New Year - 2008-02-04_00.22AM.html

真没想到08年的春节要这么样的度过...
期待已久的 一周在波兰学习考察的生活就这样开始了..

今天大早5点起床, 睡了2个多小时, 在寒风中出门, ,,, 到达机场时发现飞机因为技术原因取消了....
大家协商后决定改飞机, ,,, 飞到波兰的另一个城市, , , 但是在下午的飞机, 于是又折腾回去, 睡了4个小时的觉...
波兰真是个小国家, 飞机都不怎么的飞, 下次航班是在二天之后,,,, 真是无奈...

下午上飞机,,,, 真是奇怪, ,,座位上没有号码,,,, 被告之随便坐.... 晕..了,,,, 飞机震动可厉害了,, 提心吊胆了,,,
折腾了三个小时,,, 飞机降落了....
大家开始鼓掌..... 我不解,,,,, 后听说这架飞机第一次飞....晕了.... 还好没事....

MySQL Control Center Download Mirror


MySQL AB (the parent company that owns / runs the MySQL project) used to support a win32 mysql admin tool called MySQL Control Center.

They’ve since discontinued support for MySQL CC. So now all their download links for this product take you to this page where you can download their new “MySQL Administrator” which isn’t nearly the same thing. (i.e. you can’t create tables with it or *gasp* manage your databases)

So, my good karma deed for the day is mirroring a copy of the classic MySQL Control Center for win32 platforms:

Hopefully this’ll show up in google’s index for future MySql Control Panel seekers. :)

12 - Some Memory - 2007-11-27_00.00AM.html

我84年出生。经历了二十余载， 也不知如何归西， 所以先把自己想做的做了。今天就先把自己想到的一些事情写下来。
小时候很调皮，看着别人有什么东东， 自己也就想要。好友东升集邮， 我也吵着要， 于是就花很多钱买了好多邮票，之后就没有心思去弄了， 现在家里还有好几本。
上小学的那个年代(90年代初) 玩8位红白机还是很流行，于是打着好好学习的名号，应是让家长买了一台小霸王学习机， 说是学习打字。。。 不过，还是练到了打字。
记得和东升一块学习打字， 以前还流行 认识输入法， 不过现在估计都没了。。。 东升学认知， 我学五笔， 呵呵， 现在还用着呢。
我小学93年(小学三年级)上少年宫科技班，第一次接触电脑。(当时有电脑，数学，手工，创新思维四门课) 电脑课上就练指法， 学DOS， LOGO语言。当时兴趣来了， 课外自学， 考试优秀。印象特别深的时，一个假期练习指法， 完成一篇英文练习， 只需要1分钟。。。老师都说“指法这么快，肯定对电脑特别熟悉。。。” 我当时心里很美。
小学六年级的时候，姐姐从书店买了一本DOS书给我看， 我上课都在看。结果好像被没收了。。。。花了好一大功夫才拿回来。。。
姐姐还让妈给请了个电脑家教， 教我FoxBase2.1 , QBasic 等等。。。
初中的时候，进入了电脑兴趣小组， 表现出色， 当时教我的朱老师给我一本Turbo Pascal 的书说是让我好好学， 争取高中的时候参加奥赛。后来买了一台”步步高学生电脑” （大家还记得800元学电脑的央视电视广告吧。。）, 学了不少电脑知识。。。 比如用6502汇编写了一个加密的软件， 呵呵。。。
高中的时候， 由于朱老师推荐， 高中部的陈老师“收留”了我。 开始了我的黄金学习算法的时期，当时在学校机房开始装windows 98 可是我们却在另一个破旧的只有dos, windows3.x 的486机器上玩 Turbo Pascal 7.0 …. 高中三年对我的影响很大。。。 高一参加比赛， 没进复赛， 高二高三都进了。 都去福州比赛， 高二得了10来分， 高三得了30分， 呵呵， 很低啊。。。 可是0分的人估计都有占1/4 的比例。
高三很痛苦，由于家长， 班主任都不同意我花时间在搞奥赛， 都很反对，搞得我很是郁闷。还好陈老师不介意。我经常就是在电脑实验室里过夜。。。 比赛失利之后， 就专心复习高考。。。。

13 - Some Memory - 2007-11-10_23.11PM.html

初一入学报到， 妈妈和姐姐大老远送我到学校， 回去的时候， 我站在学校阳台上， 看着她们回去， 妈妈每走几步就回头看我一眼， 姐姐拽着妈妈走了。从此，我就过上了寄宿生活。

尽管每周回家一次， 妈妈周二总是把做好的吃的大老远提到我宿舍，看着我吃完后再拎回去。周六回家时总是有热腾腾好吃的。初中还小，每周日返校时也是妈妈跟着，到学校后已经是天黑了，然后又一个人回去了。

高三初恋，瞒着父母， 第一次上北京时， 硬是不让妈妈送， 上火车之前却没有找到电话打。 然后妈妈担心了两天。
初恋，勇气很大， 对着电话唱周杰伦的'简单爱'。

奶奶在我出国之前， 身体还硬，后来听我姐说，奶奶一直说'不知道等得等不到智华回来...'

14 - DELPHI DYNAMIC ARRAY - 2007-09-29_13.50PM.html

总结出几点关于动态数组的
　　动态数组在内存中一定是连续存放的
　　动态数组每次setLength,　会把以前在内存的东东拷贝到新的位置　然后删掉以前的东东(所以效率很低),所以尽可能一次性分配足够大的内存
　　动态数组是自动管理的，　当引用计数为０(可以赋为NIL时)　内存自动销毁　(不包括用new产生的和Object)

15 - Batch Programming in XP - mvjpg.bat.txt

I have come to a problem... i have a pictures folder which has lots of subdirs and
lots of irregular filenames such as "kdjfksjdf.jpg", "kdjflkajsdfasd.jpg"
usually i renamed them randomly to avoid the same filenames when i grabbed it from internet...
So i want to upload them to the website and i want them arranged in good order....

Each folder should be ordered by numbers 1, 2, 3.....
Each folder has at most 39 files, 1.jpg, 2.jpg, .... 39.jpg
How can I do this?

So .... Super XP has provided batch file....
